We had a lovely trip down to San Diego last week. I'm always excited to go down there! San Diego is where Patrick and I were living when we met & started dating, so there are lots of fun memories for us.
Haha...don't ask.
Vacations are always fun, but there are definitely things I *don't* look forward when we return home:
1. the mountain of laundry
2. a refrigerator that's about as impressive as the day before you move into your new place. exactly.
Its always so tempting to just grab some takeout when we get close to the house. We actually turned the AC completely off before we left (not my idea), so walking into a stuffy sauna when we unlocked our front door pretty much took away any appetite either of us had. We snacked and called it a night.
I spent my Saturday tackling said mountain of laundry and grocery shopping. Then we had a dinner party!
We had family over and finally got around to inviting our neighbors for dinner. Bad Shaina. We've been here for almost 4 months! The best part of the night: I did some prep work and that was it! The men cooked. AND cleaned!
Except Tripp. He just flirted with the ladies.
We learned that we made a mistake in renting this house, though. Its too small already and we only have 1 baby! We really enjoy having people over and entertaining, but anything more than 10 is a tight squeeze around the dinner table. Looks like we need to get on that patio furniture shopping!
We're off to church and then I'll be having a cookstravaganza this afternoon to prep for the week. Hopefully my veggie burger experiment isn't a complete bust. Hope you're having a great weekend!

Anxious....
Hey hey happy Monday! I hope your weekend was fantastic and the week is off to a great start. :-)
We had a good one over here. Friday night Farmer's Market that ended with a tamale that set my mouth on fire:
Saturday we got a special visitor from the East Coast. Tripp got to meet his other Grandpa for the first time!
What's a weekend without a fantastic grilled feast?

What's a weekend without a fantastic grilled feast?
shrimp & veggie kabobs, sweet potato w/ a drizzle of honey and cinnamon, lettuce-less salad: cucumber, tomato, avocado, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, sea salt & pepper.
Yesterday was relax & catch up day, complete with Tripp's first time at church (he slept...shocker), a nap (!) and a 30 min walk with some stretching. I'm not doing anything crazy on the workout front yet - but holy cow I can't wait. Just walking, stretching and doing a few planks today felt so energizing! I'm starting to add some planks and cobras in (only a few) because I can tell my lower back and abs are super weak. I want to start lifting again as soon as I get the green light in a week and a half, but if I don't strengthen my back and abs a bit...it could be ugly.
In other news, I'm a little anxious about tonight. I'll be leaving the baby for the first time. It will only be a couple of hours and he'll be with my Dad (who is awesome with babies and happens to be a fantastic ER nurse), but I didn't think it would be this soon and I cried on Friday when I realized it was going to happen. Patrick & I have a dinner to go to that wouldn't really be appropriate for Tripp to attend.
I think part of my fear about leaving him was whether or not he would take the bottle - or if he did, would he take me back? I started pumping toward the end of last week and everything went off without a hitch. I feel a lot better than I did a few days ago. I'll miss him like crazy and probably smother him with kisses the second we walk in the door...but I need to do this and get it over with. I can do this. I think. (nervous laugh)

Showered with Love
I guess its a good thing I still have some energy reserves! What a weekend its been!
Friday night, we went to our first baseball game of the season @ Dodger Stadium. Last time we were there, it was a pretty eventful afternoon:
Friday night's game was a winner, but I don't think anything will top August 22nd, 2009. :-)
Patrick and I got to spend a few hours yesterday with friends and family at our baby shower and it was everything we could have hoped for. Lots of good food, some fun games, and people we love. I get a little emotional when I think about how excited everyone is for this baby to come - s/he is already surrounded by so much love.
2 eggs over-medium, sauteed spinach, black beans, homemade salsa, toast & juice
We're off later to celebrate an Eagle Court of Honor with some family friends before church and some much needed relaxation....and by relaxation, I mean baby laundry and putting away all the lovely gifts we received. Let's be realistic. I can't sit still for more than 20 minutes haha.
Have a wonderful Sunday afternoon! xo Shaina

(I was a little tired by the end of the day.)
I definitely needed to sleep in this morning. I'm just enjoying a leisurely breakfast while the troops are out on a trail run through the mountains. Jealous? A little. Relishing the quiet? Absolutely. 2 eggs over-medium, sauteed spinach, black beans, homemade salsa, toast & juice

Settling In
Happy Monday friends!
I hope all the Moms out there had a fantastic Mother's Day yesterday, surrounded by the ones you love.
We went to brunch with the family and it was so nice to have both of our Moms here this year!
I'm even enjoying his kitchen disasters haha.
He wanted to make fresh orange juice for me yesterday to go with breakfast....its the thought that counts right? It was still delish!
Last night, I was watching last week's episode of Grey's and the cafeteria scene gave me a random hankering for pasta. We didn't have any in the house so Patrick got to do his first late-night pregnancy craving food run....pizza and pasta at 1030pm. I pretty much ate my body weight in angel hair, plus a piece of this delicious creation that he ordered:
How I was even hungry this morning when I woke up at 7am I will never know, but the appetite is definitely ramped up today. Does anyone know if that's a sign of impending labor?!
Have a wonderful Monday everyone! I'm testing out a new dessert recipe tomorrow morning, so I'll let you know how it goes. ;-)

Afterward, Patrick and I took an epic 3.5 hour nap, went for a walk and have just been hanging out. I love seeing this face every morning. :-)
